Orla was elected to Moyle District Council
in 2005. She is married to Joey and has two young children Dervla
and Senan and lives in the village of Cushendall in the heart of the
Glens of Antrim.
Orla has a degree in European Regional
Development from the University of Ulster, Coleraine and a Diploma
in Community Development Practice from the Rural College in
Draperstown and NUI Galway. She has been Development Officer for
Cushendall since February 2003 and works in a voluntary capacity
with a number of local groups including Glenariff Development Group,
Jack and Jill Playcare, Ballycastle Ltd, and Green Glens Recycling
Ltd. She is a member of Moyle District Policing Partnership and has
been extremely proactive in developing a number of initiatives to
help address anti social behaviour and other crime throughout the
area including neighbourhood watch.
Since her election to Council in May 2005
Orla has become a well respected public representative for Moyle.
She is currently Vice Chair of Moyle Council and has led a number of
initiatives both in and out of Council for the benefit of the
community. Her hard work and support to the local community is well
known throughout the Glens as is her friendliness and cheery nature.
She is particularly interested in issues
involving young people and young families and has organised a number
of public meetings in the Moyle area, including one on the lack of
affordable housing and has helped, through her work as Development
Officer and as a volunteer, to draw down significant amounts of
funding for the Moyle area. |
