Appalling condition of rural roads

Ballymena SDLP councillor Declan O’Loan has said that rural roads are in an appalling condition, and millions of pounds need to be spent on them.

Councillor O’Loan said, “Like many politicians I have travelled many miles on rural roads in North Antrim recently. I have been shocked at just how bad a state the rural roads are in. This is not just superficial damage. Mile after mile of road has broken edges where the deep structure of the road has disintegrated. What should be a firm and defined road edge is a mess of broken tarmac and mud.

This is yet another instance where our infrastructure has been allowed to collapse over the years. There has been a lack of investment. This shows the urgent need for a working Assembly.
