Black Calls for Energy Saving Initiative

SDLP North Antrim Assembly Candidate Cllr Orla Black has called for a day of action to show just how much energy can be saved by everyone taking steps to save energy together.

Cllr Black said: “Energy saving is such an important issue that we need to drive home the message in very forceful and easily understood ways.

“I am calling on everyone to join in a combined energy saving initiative at the same time right across the whole of Northern Ireland.

“I am asking newspapers, television channels and radio stations, local and regional, to declare one day to be ‘energy saving day’. On the specified day everyone would be asked to turn off appliances that are not absolutely essential to what they are doing – lights, computers, washing machines, workplace machines etc. etc.

“Such an initiative would show just how much energy we don’t need and show how much could be saved if everyone took the lessons of energy efficiency to heart.

“The truth is that we are all lazy when it comes to saving energy and don’t believe that our efforts would make any difference. But if we were to all join together in one big initiative we would see just how much could be saved in the course of the normal day.

“I will be writing to all of the media and asking that they take the lead in making such an initiative a success.”
